Yassin's Poems

For decades,
Singing LAWOK for the red star,
Singing HAYRAN for the red fire,
They did no good, they were liars.

They were a cold storm,
A seductive wind,
Blowing out the live coal
Of hope and warm love
In our hearts.

Enough – it is over.
All the poor, now they know.
You fought for your stomach,
Not for freedom,
Nor for the Kurds.

Certainly your name will be
In the darkest pages of history,
With the dictators, the biggest tyrants
Of the Twentieth Century.
