Yassin's Poems
TO CINDY SHEEHAN

Dear Cindy,

I saw my mom
Almost lose her mind
When my younger brother died.

I read about Khansan,
Great woman of Arabia,
Who with her tears, with her sadness,
Wrote volumes of poems,
Crying for decades
For the loss of her beloved.

I knew Hind,
Who at the death of her uncle
Sent one to take revenge.
Then she asked for the body of the killer –
Cut up the parts,
And drank from his blood.

I did not ever hear of anyone,
Any woman who has done as you have done.
You changed your disaster
Into a peaceful revolution,
For building good relations
Between each and all the nations.

You wanted to be the last woman
Ever to lose her son in war.

You wanted your calamity
To heal and cure
The wounds of humanity.

Dear Cindy, it is true -
Revenge leads us down a road
That never ends.
War takes us to hell
And cannot be the answer.

Dear Cindy,
You are the mom
Of the victims of war.
You represent all of the silent women
Of all the poor countries.

Dear Cindy,
You are the voice for everyone
Who because of war lost her son,
Lost her land,
Lost her home,
Lost her food and water,
Lost her education,
Lost her mind and dignity.

Dear Cindy,
War is just destruction -
It cannot build any nation.
Hate prevents unity –
Bombs and armies
Cannot bring Democracy.

Keep shouting!
Millions are suffering.
War brings no benefit –
Except to the unjust rulers
And their huge corporations!
